Huge Outpouring Of Support For Goats Seeking Adoption
METHUEN (CBS) – There's a lot of love out there for 46 goats that were surrendered from a Western Massachusetts property earlier this month.
More than 200 people have called or emailed the MSPCA after it was announced that the goats taken from a Montague home would be up for adoption. The goats' owner said he became overwhelmed by their numbers, and it's considered one of the largest goat surrenders in the MSPCA's history.
There are 10 baby goats, and several female goats are pregnant. The goats are currently being treated for a bacteria that causes worms.
"Despite these ailments—which are not uncommon when a population of herd animals like goats is allowed to grow unchecked—they are generally well socialized and friendly animals," said Gia Barss, barn manager for the MSPCA's Nevins Farm in Methuen.
Anyone interested in adopting the goats should have other farm animals on their property and have an understanding of goats. There will be a goat "meet and greet" Saturday at Nevins Farm.
Adoption inquiries can be emailed to barnstaff@mspca.org.
