Firefighters Rescue Horse Trapped In Carver Bog

CARVER (CBS) -- Members of the Plymouth County Technical Rescue Team pulled a horse from a bog in Carver on Saturday afternoon, according to the Duxbury Fire Department.

At about 2:50, the horse was reported trapped in a bog near Center Street. When rescue crews arrived, the animal was stuck in a 6-foot-wide ditch, in water up to the animal's neck.

Duxbury Fire Department firefighters and other elements of the Technical Rescue Team, which is trained to conduct large-animal rescue efforts and has a veterinarian on staff, used ropes and other tethers to pull the horse to safety. The Carver Fire Department helped transport rescue equipment to the scene with a 6x6 all-terrain vehicle.

The horse appeared to be unharmed and was returned to its owner.

The Technical Rescue Team includes a couple dozen firefighters drawn from the 27 cities and towns in Plymouth County.
