Fire At Historic Haverhill Mill May Have Been Intentionally Set
HAVERHILL, Mass. (AP) — An eight-alarm fire that ripped through an empty 130,000-square-foot mill in Haverhill may have been intentionally set.
ArsonWatch posters were placed on the ruins of the building and in the surrounding neighborhood on Monday, offering a $5,000 reward for information on how the blaze started.
Deputy Fire Chief William Laliberty tells The Eagle-Tribune that while the fire is believed to be suspicious, other causes have not been ruled out.
The building caught fire around 5 p.m. Sunday and smoke could be seen 20 miles away. No injuries were reported.
Haverhill Fire Chief Jack Parow says the 5-story building was built in 1884 but been abandoned for a while.
Firefighters may be on the scene for days hosing down hotspots.
