EVERETT (CBS) – Two people were killed and two others seriously injured after a crash involving an Everett Department of Public Works vehicle and a pickup truck.
The crash happened on North Broadway on Wednesday morning. As a result, Broadway was closed for several hours.
"I heard the boom. I heard the crash. Then I came outside, the accident was the white pickup truck was crashed, it hit him on the passenger side," said Steve Yasonis. "It separated the back wheels, the actual pickup truck was severed.
Three people were inside a pickup truck that collided with an Everett DPW truck that had one person inside.
A man and woman who were passengers in the pickup truck died from their injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck suffered serious injuries while the DPW truck driver suffered non-life threatening injuries. Both remain hospitalized.
According to Everett Mayor Carlo De Mario, 55-year-old Paul Blauvelt was driving the DPW truck.
"Paul definitely is a great employee of ours," said DeMario. "He's been working with us for about five years now, very dedicated employee."
Blauvelt suffered a broken pelvis, he said.
"We're just hoping and praying that, again, he has a speedy recovery, he has some small children, he has a wife, and he lives here in the city."
