Judge Grants Temporary Stay Order As Boston Police Commissioner Dennis White Fights To Keep Job

BOSTON (CBS) -- There were new developments Wednesday in Boston Police Commissioner Dennis White's fight to keep his job. A judge has issued a temporary stay of order, meaning no action can be taken to fire him right now.

The order will be in place while White's attorney appeals Tuesday's Superior Court decision that acting Boston Mayor Kim Janey can remove and replace him.

"I respect Judge Brieger's decision to review her ruling, and as such, I have postponed the hearing for Dennis White," Janey said in a Wednesday statement, reacting to the latest ruling. "I stand ready to move forward on behalf of the residents of Boston and the Boston Police Department, as soon as the court allows. I am grateful for the continued professionalism and service of our BPD officers during this time."

Dennis White was suspended two days after he was appointed commissioner in February when decades-old accusations of domestic violence surfaced.

There was no immediate word on how long the appeals process could take.
