Comedian 'Angrily' Responds To $15 Parking Ticket Received During NH Visit

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (CBS) – A popular comedian penned a tongue-in-cheek full-page ad in a New Hampshire publication in protest of a $15 parking ticket he received for backing in to a parking space.

Eugene Mirman, who plays Gene on Bob's Burgers, claims that on a trip to Portsmouth, N.H., in June, he was given a parking ticket on his rental car despite paying for the spot.

Mirman soon discovered, however, the ticket was for backing in to his parking space, which is not allowed in the city.

In response to his ticket, Mirman wrote a tongue in cheek full-page letter that was published in the Portsmouth Summer Guide.

"It's illegal to back into a spot? Before I embarrass myself, I want to make sure that Portsmouth is still inside the United States and not considered a part of Iran?" Mirman wrote in the 462-word letter addressed to "Portsmouth, NH, and Especially the Parking Clerk's Office.

Before signing his letter "With Great Disappointment In You," the comedian reminded the city that New Hampshire's motto is "Live Free or Die."

"If John Stark was alive today, he would be 287 years old — also, right after learning about cars, General Stark would then be disgusted to discover that Portsmouth doesn't even give people the freedom to back into a spot — which by your own state's twisted logic, turns my $15 ticket — into a fight to the death," Mirman wrote.
