Chair Of Mass. Dems To Step Down, Lead Patrick PAC

BOSTON (AP) — The head of the Massachusetts Democratic party is stepping down.

A spokeswoman for John Walsh says he'll announce at a news conference on Tuesday that he plans to take over Gov. Deval Patrick's political action committee, the Together PAC.

Walsh was elected chairman of the Massachusetts Democratic Party in 2007 after helping Patrick win the governor's office for the first time in 2006.

Walsh was re-elected to the post last November after Democrat Elizabeth Warren unseated incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown in a hard fought race. He leaves office after Democrat Edward Markey won a special election to succeed John Kerry in the U.S. Senate.

Patrick formed the Together PAC in 2011 to help pay for his travels on behalf of President Barack Obama's re-election effort.
