Cardinal Sean O'Malley Visits Tom Menino In Hospital

BOSTON (CBS) - The head of the Boston Archdiocese visited former Boston Mayor Tom Menino in the hospital Wednesday afternoon.

Cardinal Sean O'Malley did not speak to reporters at Brigham and Women's Hospital, where Menino is in hospice after suspending his cancer treatments last week.

Menino has been in the hospital since October 16.

His spokesperson, Dot Joyce, told WBZ-TV's Bill Shields Menino is "resting comfortably."

Doctors told the Boston Globe the cancer was discovered in early February while doctors were examining Menino's back because of chronic weakness in his legs.

They did a scan and discovered that an advanced cancer of unknown origin has metastasized and spread to his liver and lymph nodes.

Menino, 71, began chemotherapy at Dana-Farber in early March.

He left office in January after serving 20 years as mayor. Menino took a position with Boston University shortly after his term ended.
