Budweiser Looks To Change Label Name To 'America' This Summer
ST. LOUIS (CBS) – It appears there's a patriotic change brewing for one of the country's most popular beers this summer.
AdAge reports that InBev, the company that makes Budweiser, wants to change the name on that beer's label.
Instead of "Budweiser," it would read "America." The labels would also contain USA-themed phrases like "indivisible since 1776" and lyrics from "This Land Is Your Land."
InBev is a Belgium-based corporation, but the beer is still brewed in St. Louis.
Budweiser seemed to confirm the speculation Tuesday morning, tweeting an image that showed "America" on one of its cans, above the phrase "E Pluribus Unum."
An InBev spokesman told AdAge that the goal of the change is to capitalize on American pride that's usually at its height during the summer.
The label change is pending approval from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax And Trade Bureau.
