Brookline Making Push To Host 2022 U.S. Open Golf Tournament

BROOKLINE (CBS) – Town officials in Brookline are hoping to bring one of the country's premier professional golf tournaments to their home course for the first time in decades.

Brookline Town Administrator Melvin Kleckner told WBZ-TV that officials sent a letter of intent to the United States Golf Association in hopes of hosting the U.S. Open in 2022.

The USGA said it accepted the invitation letter from The Country Club in Brookline.

USGA officials added that the championship committee is currently in the process of assessing the bid's viability. A final decision will likely come in October.

Brookline last hosted the U.S. Open at The Country Club in 1988, though it has held several other major tournaments such as the 1999 Ryder Cup in the years since.
