Boston's Best Ways To Celebrate Earth Day
Earth Day is an international holiday that is all about protecting and preserving the environment. From science initiatives to park cleanups, there is always plenty to do every year on April 22. Boston has multiple events that participants can volunteer for. Remember it is always okay to organize something like a family picnic and park cleanup if time is constricted. If not, join the worldwide community by helping Boston cleanup or support those who are helping the planet clean up.

Citizens and the Charles River Watershed Association are working hard to change the condition of the Charles River. Every year, concerned volunteers head down to the river at numerous locations along its city lengths and clean up. Make sure to register before the event to lend a hand. Companies can sponsor the river cleanup or provide refreshments for volunteers.

Another annual event in Boston is Earth Day on the Greenway at Dewey Square Park. A bit more of a party than the river cleanup, it is still all about conservation. Volunteers can help spruce up the park and partygoers can come in and support the greenway by having a good time. Of course, there is a strict policy that everyone clean up after themselves, so make sure to remember what the day is all about when having a good time on the carousel, getting face painted or enjoying some food from local vendors.
Parks Everywhere
Picnic for the Planet is a worldwide event where people go out and enjoy parks on Earth Day by picnicking at them. Bostonians can organize their own or join up for one on social websites. The idea is to eat food grown locally to promote sustainability. Concerned citizens of the planet can also use the opportunity to clean up the parks in which they picnic. They can even raise money for local sustainable efforts at their picnics.

Anyone interested in the legality of environmental issues will enjoy this lecture from Richard Lazarus, a professor of law at Harvard University. In it, he discusses the inadequacy of current environmental laws. If laws do not keep up with scientific advances, they become outdated and detrimental to people and the planet. Lazarus will also talk about problems like fracking and offshore drilling, citing his significant experiences with the Gulf Shore BP oil disaster.
