Boston's Best Hot Winter Drinks

The winter months have arrived in New England, which means frigid temperatures are here. What's the best way to warm up? A hot drink of course. And there are plenty of great places in Boston that are serving them up. Whether it's a hot chocolate, eggnog, or a latte, these warm drinks will certainly help you get through the harsh New England winter.

Hailed as the first Italian café in Boston, Caffe Vittoria opened its doors in 1929. This café in Boston's historic North End offers warm drinks with a little extra spirit. The Mint Cookie is made up of hot cocoa, Bailey's mint, and peppermint Schnapps. Caffe Vittoria also offers up an "Italia" that includes hot cocoa, hazelnut liqueur, Kahlua, and brandy. There are four levels of seating with three full bars at Caffee Vittoria, which gives you the perfect way to escape the cold.

A short walk from Boston Common, Thinking Cup offers a variety of hot drinks that include French Hot Chocolate in two sizes and 64 percent Tainori Valhrona chocolate drinks. Thinking Cup's coffee beverages are made from Stumptown Coffee. Stumptown, based in Oregon, was recently named Best Coffee in the World by several publications. The beans used in Thinking Cup's coffee drinks are brought in from Stumptown's Brooklyn, New York facility. Thinking Cup, which also has North End and Back Bay locations, offers freshly baked pastries in addition to beverages.

What better place for a hot chocolate than a chocolate shop? L.A. Burdick Handmade Chocolates offers a wide variety of hot and cold chocolate drinks, including dark, milk, and white chocolate. The beverages are made from shaved chocolate combined with steamed milk. In the mood for something other than chocolate? L.A. Burdick's Harvard Square location also includes coffee and specialty drinks. In addition to the Harvard Square location, another L.A. Burdick's shop is located on Clarendon Street in Boston.

Sip Café in downtown Boston has a variety of drinks to warm up your day. Their mocha drink is made with 100 percent organic chocolate. The Nocciobello is the house speciality. It's a Nutella latte with orange zest grated on top. Sip Café also offers a ginger latte, which is created with house-made spicy ginger syrup.
