Boston's Best Fried Chicken

Good fried chicken can be hard to find when you're not in the deep south, but there are quite a few great places where you can get some excellent Southern-style food without jumping on a jet plane. In honor of National Fried Chicken Day on July 6, below you will find five of the best eateries to order fried chicken, many of which will have you wanting to go back the moment you step out the door. Each one of the restaurants listed below offers a different take on a favorite meal, and are very affordable. These eateries have received such great reviews that you might want to try them all!

Some say that Saus serves the very best fried chicken in Boston, which is why it is number one on this list. Aside from the fact that Saus offers an extensive and impressive Poutine menu, many restaurant-goers say that the fried chicken and waffles here is what keeps them coming back for more. The casual eatery was started by three college kids who lost their jobs in the 2008 recession, and has been thriving ever since.

The Coast Cafe in Cambridge offers some delectable soul food that is sure to satisfy your cravings for a home-cooked, Southern-style meal. The fried chicken is a staple at the eatery, which uses a light breading with just the right amount of seasoning. Opened in 1997 by a brother and sister team, the Brooks family say that their food is so good because it is made with "pure love." Those who have visited for a bite would have to agree -- and we're sure you will, too!

Another great spot to nosh on fried chicken is Tupelo in Inman Square. The chicken and waffles is quite a popular dish.
