MBTA Police: Man Posed As Military To Ride For Free, Ended Up In Jail

BOSTON (CBS) -- A Braintree man allegedly trying to pose as a member of the military to get on the T without paying his fare got a ride he wasn't expecting – in the back of an MBTA police cruiser.

Transit Police said Christopher Keefe, 28, of Braintree, approached a customer service agent at the Mass. Avenue MBTA station just before 7:00 Tuesday night and told her he was an "active duty" member of the armed forces and asked to ride without paying.

When T officers asked to see Keefe's military ID, police said, they discovered that he was not telling the truth and that there was a warrant for his arrest for assault and battery on an elderly person.

Keefe's intended destination on the T is unknown but he did arrive at Transit Police Headquarters for booking.
