Bail Hearing Postponed For Man Convicted In 1985 Rape

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) — A snowstorm has forced the postponement of a bail hearing for a man who was convicted of rape and spent 30 years in prison based in part on a single strand of hair.

George Perrot was convicted of raping a 78-year-old woman in 1985. Last month, a judge granted Perrot a new trial after finding that an FBI agent's testimony that a hair found in the woman's home matched Perrot was faulty.

A bail hearing had been scheduled for Monday in New Bedford Superior Court, but was cancelled because most courthouses in the state were closed due to a storm that is expected to drop to 12 to 18 inches of snow in some areas.

A new date for Perrot's bail hearing was not set immediately.
