Amtrak To Introduce Excess Baggage Fee Starting In October

WASHINGTON (CBS) -- It's a policy familiar to airline passengers, but now Amtrak riders will soon be paying a fee if they bring extra bags on board.

Amtrak says that starting Thursday, customers will face a $20 excess baggage fee "for each carry-on and personal item above the quantity and size limits."

Read The New Guidelines

Passengers are allowed two personal items weighing up to 25 pounds each, and two carry-on bags up to 50 pounds each on board.

The fee will be collected either at the station or on the train.
