Abraham On Toucher & Rich: When Will Bobby Be Let Go?
BOSTON (CBS) - The Red Sox are on the road in New York finishing up their 2012 season with a series against the Yankees. The Sox fell to the Yanks 10-2, which gave New York a 1-game lead in the AL East.
Peter Abraham joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich Tuesday to discuss the lineup the Sox put on the field, manager Bobby Valentine, John Farrell and the MVP voting.
Although these games don't mean a whole lot for the Sox, who are sitting pretty at the bottom of the AL East, they do mean something for the Yankees and Orioles as they battle for the division.
Are there some questioning the lineup the Sox are putting out on the field in games with playoff implications?
"I know yesterday in New York they were incredulous with the idea that the Red Sox would have a lineup with six players that started the year in Triple A and a guy in Danny Valencia who the Minnesota Twins basically gave away and essentially two big leaguers, Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Cody Ross."
"It was embarrassing, I think to the franchise in a game where the Yankees are playing for first place and the division title with three games up in the air. And if the Red Sox tried that in spring training they'd get a note from the commissioner saying you have to do better than that."
With such a poor season many are starting to guess when the organization will let manager Bobby Valentine go. Are the Sox worried that Bobby V might start talking about the organization to friends in the media out in New York?
"I think it's probably Thursday. Major League Baseball needs to have playoff games on Friday, so I would think they would want to do it on Thursday and get it over with and not make news that would interfere with other teams playing in playoff games. That's usually the way baseball likes it handled."
When does Abraham think the manager will be let go? Will the Sox pursue Toronto Blue Jays manager John Farrell?
