11-Year-Old Accidentally Shot In Face At Abington Home

ABINGTON (CBS) – A young boy was accidentally shot in the face Wednesday inside an Abington home.

Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz said an 11-year-old boy was shot on Linwood Street during an incident that also involved another 11-year-old.

Sources told WBZ-TV the boy was playing with his friend when the friend accidentally shot him.

Massachusetts State Police responded to the scene along with Abington Police and firefighters.

One of the boys suffered serious injuries and was taken to South Shore Hospital in stable condition. He was then taken to a Boston hospital by MedFlight.

Plymouth D.A. Timothy Cruz addresses shooting

"We believe he's doing OK right now, but any gun shot wound is dangerous and anything can happen," said Cruz. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to that little boy's safety. That's No. 1 right now."

Cruz said he is "not aware" if any adults were in the home at the time of the shooting, and he added that the gun was legally owned.

Neighbor Beverly McAuliffe looked on as the boy was loaded into an ambulance after the shooting.

"I saw the kid in the ambulance and he was just covered with blood in the face," said McAuliffe. "They were playing together. I don't know what they were doing or how they got the gun."

Another woman said the incident is out of character for the otherwise quiet neighborhood.

"I panicked big time. You don't expect anything like that to happen here. I hear so often that kids get a hold of a gun," the woman said.
