One person has died after an early morning rollover on the off-road trails of Sandy Neck Beach in Barnstable.

Authorities say 39-year old Joseph Pine was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. 29-year old Nicholas Decosta of Forestdale was taken to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment of a broken leg.

28-year old Brant Hawes of Sandwich was not injured.

Hawes was the only one of the three in the Jeep who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, police said.

The accident, which occurred shortly before 1 a.m., is still under investigation by Barnstable police, said Sgt. Sean Sweeney. Police said that Pine died from a head injury.

The Jeep was left in the water until the overnight high tide receded.
