Star Spangled Stories: The history of Fort McHenry in Baltimore

Baltimore's Fort McHenry was built in 1803. Located in Locust Point, the historic monument was named after surgeon and signer of the Constitution James McHenry. The monument gained fame during the War of 1812, with a victory that inspired Francis Scott Key to write a poem that would later become "The Star Spangled Banner."
