Woman Wanted In Hit-And-Run Crashes Runs Over Officer During Escape
FREDERICK, Md. (WJZ)—A woman is wanted in Frederick, Maryland for two hit-and-run incidents, one of which injured a police officer on Tuesday morning.
Officers responded to a crash on Tuesday around 4:30 a.m. involving two vehicles to Rosemont Ave, but one driver left the scene.
Police say they received a tip about the hit-and-run suspect near E. 4th Street and Chapel Ally.
According to police, when officers approached the suspect, identified as Heather Toms, 35, she put the vehicle in reverse and ran over an officer's leg in an attempt to flee police.
The officer was taken to an area hospital and released Wednesday morning with minor injuries.
Authorities are now searching for Toms who is wanted on charges of 1st degree assault, malicious destruction of property, failing to remain at the scene of an accident involving injuries, fleeing and eluding, driving on a suspended & revoked license, and reckless & negligent driving.
