WEATHER BLOG: Warmer Temps Ahead

Throughout much of eastern and central Pennsylvania and also across Virginia and Maryland, whatever snow occurred should total somewhere on the order of a
coating to two inches... A handful of locations picked up a little more, but those are the 'exceptions, and not the rule'. With this wave of low pressure departing this afternoon, its tendency to deepen over the Atlantic Ocean will cause the pressure gradient to tighten. So, especially along and to the east of I-95, a northeast wind can
gust as high as 25 or 30 mph -- but probably no higher. And, assuming that clouds break for a little sunshine this afternoon, the temperature should reach the upper 30s or lower 40s... In most cases, this range is just slightly below what's considered typical for this time of year... There should be some clearing tonight, and the temperature will be dropping into the 20s.

We've been talking the past few days about "one last Clipper" - type disturbance over this recent stretch, and it should reach the East Coast late tomorrow night or early on Sunday. This will be yet another "innocuous feature", to say the least. It will only result in a snow shower or just some flurries in the big cities on Saturday night. By Sunday morning, clouds should begin to break for some sun... And, although Sunday's temperature should still be no higher than the 40s, it is going to start turning milder early next week...

We're still on track to reach 60 degrees in most areas on Monday, while Tuesday and Wednesday should be even warmer -- and it should reach the lower 70s in a few neighborhoods, especially on Wednesday afternoon. A high pressure system will be migrating into a position off the Carolina Coast, and the southwesterly flow it will be inducing should promote this nice warm-up. After this weekend, it would be way too soon to declare "Winter is over", but at least the measurable snow some of us will be getting early today will be forgotten soon.
