WEATHER BLOG: Last April Weekend

We are off to a chilly start Saturday morning and temperatures will stay below normal. We have weak low pressure across northern Missouri with a warm front from southern Illinois to northern South Carolina. The weak low pressure has very little upper level support and will just be a weak wave moving eastward along the only slowly northward warm front that will stay will to our south. We start with some sunshine, but clouds will increase and thicken with some rain breaking out mid afternoon in Baltimore and continuing Saturday night. Amounts will be less than 0.20 of an inch everywhere across the
viewing area from this event as the weak wave will not draw up any rich moisture, but will be able squeeze out 5-8 hours of light rain Saturday night. The wave will exit to the south and east in the Atlantic late at night and flow aloft from the northwest and dry air coming out of high pressure settling southward in Ontario will result in the quick return of sunshine Sunday morning and a nice afternoon Sunday with temperatures recovering to the middle 60s.

The high pressure will slide across the area Sunday night for another chilly night, then sunshine will mix with clouds Monday as high pressure slides to the east and warm, moist advection starts from the southwest. The warm, moist advection will result in a shower and perhaps a thunderstorm anytime from later Monday night through Tuesday, but it should not be a washout. We break into warmer air with a south to southwest flow around high pressure over the Atlantic Wednesday and Thursday. Most of each of these days will be dry with intervals of sun, but not a clean set up and we think there can be a shower or thunderstorm in the area both of those days. A front is slated to come in from the northwest Thursday night or Friday.
