WEATHER BLOG: Hot & Humid
Hi Everyone!
Hot and humid. Showers and a t-storm or two. And there you have today's forecast. (BTW Sunny tomorrow and through the rest of the week. And hot too with temps around 90 tomorrow Thursday, and Friday. And there you have it.)
But what I really want to talk about are thunder storms.
We do have a few in the forecast today, but unlike yesterday I don't see any severe storms rolling through, (though we do keep a close eye on these things just to make sure a cell does not "explode' on us). But in general thunder storms do not have to be, and usually are not severe. There is a big difference.
If you hit up any of the ISS astronauts on Social Media, (mostly Twitter), you will see pictures, or Vines, of lightning. Lots of lightning. Every second somewhere on the Earth, it seems, there is lightning. During the nighttime passes over the planet these Astronauts see lightning flashing along frontal boundaries hundreds of miles long. Really impressive video when they post it. But that does not mean severe.
By nature, no pun intended, a thunderstorm is a big event. They contain a lot of energy. There is a fine line between "raising hell, and amazing grace" say's the old country song lyric. Well such is the case with these storms. The majority are more "amazing grace." And lightning itself is thought to clean the atmosphere and add Ozone to our atmosphere. My point here is don't get tense when you hear us say thunderstorm. Not always is it a bad scene.
But always it is impressive. OK, call me a weather geek.
