WEATHER BLOG: Cooling Down
The front, with a weak wave near the Delmarva, continues to press to the east Saturday morning and our lingering moisture in the form of a little rain or showers should be pushing off to the east by 6-7 a.m. in the city. There will be enough progress of drier air pushing in behind the front to allow intervals of sun, dry weather and much lower humidity Saturday afternoon. The farther east and southeast you go across the viewing area, there will still be enough moisture and instability to result in a shower or thunderstorm to bubble up in the afternoon, so those going to the Delaware and Maryland beaches may still have some unsettled weather.
Drier and cooler air will continue to make progress eastward Saturday night and it should be comfortable in the evening, then Sunday will be a pleasantly warm day with sunshine and some clouds. There is the slight chance for a pop up shower back into the mountains Sunday afternoon, but current thinking is that is even a stretch as the air remains too dry and we wait for the next piece of energy to sharpen up the trough. That energy and sharpening of the trough that we have been talking about for several days leads to a lot of questions for Sunday night and Monday. The GFS threw a wild pitch with its latest run, that although not out of the question, seems a little extreme with its organized and strengthening area of low pressure developing down in the Tennessee Valley and tracking northeastward Monday into Monday night. The Euro is more consistent with itself from recent runs, though farther west with precip and has a good slug of precipitation across our area, and much cooler temperatures than we are forecasting for Monday. Kind of a wait and see game for now, but we are banking on at least some wet weather Monday.
We still allow for the chance of a shower or thunderstorm Tuesday with the upper level trough axis still to our west, though an overall weakening trough with rising heights. The way things looks though, the threat for any significant wet weather Tuesday looks a lot lower than Monday.
