WEATHER BLOG: Cool & Comfortable
The weather pattern will settle down markedly across the region over the next several days in the wake of Saturday's thunderstorms and severe weather as a large zone of high pressure moves from the northern Plains today to the Northeast Coast by Tuesday. This high will bring an extended period of fair weather that will last through the end of the week. Initially, the northwest flow around the high will bring a taste of autumnal weather, with cool mornings and mild afternoons early in the week. Once the high moves east of the area at mid and late week, a southerly flow will develop and allow for temperatures to rebound back to summery conditions by Thursday into the weekend!
There are just two minor "flies" in the ointment, neither of which will really have much impact. The first is the frontal zone slowly exiting the East Coast. A combination of a building upper-level high over the central Atlantic (associated with TS Leslie) and an upper level jet stream disturbance (aka. shortwave) crossing the Midwest will cause the front to decelerate as it moves east .... bringing an opportunity for precip. to linger along the ATL coast and se Del Marva (mainly this morning) while clouds dim the sunshine at times elsewhere this morning before skies turn mainly sunny this afternoon. Later today, however, the
aforementioned upper level jet stream disturbance will pass nearby. The cool air aloft associated with the disturbance combined with daytime heating will allow spotty showers to form later this afternoon northwest of the region ... in PA and the western panhandle of MD. There could even be a rumble of thunder, especially north over the mountains. By tonight, the disturbance will shift off the coast and allow drier air to arrive .....and this dry air will last for the remainder of the week.
