WEATHER BLOG: A Milder Morning

Most of the region is experiencing a milder morning than yesterday, which is a clear signal of things to come over the next two days... Also, recent satellite imagery shows that there are high clouds that are already creeping into the Eastern Region... The high pressure system which brought most of nice, sun-filled weather yesterday is beginning to drift away from the Eastern Seaboard, and the return flow we had talked about is causing light south and southwesterly winds... So, even though there will be clouds as well as some sunshine today -- and temperatures near many of the south-facing shorelines will lag WAY BEHIND those located farther inland, there should be significant warming this afternoon... Most highs are expected to be in the upper 60 and lower 70s, which represents a jump of more than ten degrees when comparing it to yesterday.

Clouds are going to thicken later today, and there'll probably even be a few showers breaking out between 5 and 8 p.m. -- primarily north and west of Interstate 95. The next cold front that will be approaching the coastal plain late tomorrow is forecasted to move even more slowly than previously thought, so we're thinking that the shower activity that occurs in most places tonight will be spotty at first. And, since there'll be prolonged stretches of time late tonight and tomorrow when it is just rather cloudy, it should remain relatively warm for this time of year.

With lots of clouds tonight, temperatures overnight will be no lower than the 50s, and it may never drop below 60 degrees in some neighborhoods. A wave of low pressure on the current weather map (located near Chicago) will be tracking to the north and east through the Great Lakes on its way to eastern Canada, and areas well to the north will be the initial focal point of multiple showers (or, just a steadier rain).

We'll have to allow for a few showers and even a thunderstorm or two around here tomorrow, but that still shouldn't prevent the temperature to reach the 70s on most thermometers.
