Traffic Pattern Change Coming To Downtown Baltimore?

BALTIMORE (WJZ)--The flow of traffic on two of Baltimore's more traveled roadways could see a change.

For 60 years it's one way for drivers on St. Paul Street and Calvert Street in Downtown Baltimore.

That all could change after a $140,000 study looks at ways to improve the flow of traffic, while addressing the concerns of people living in working near the two streets.

"We're going to consider the results of this study, the impacts on residents, the impacts on traffic, the impacts on parking, the impacts on businesses, the results of the survey," said William Johnson, Baltimore City D.O.T. "We're going to consider a number of things before we make any final decision on how we're move forward."

What will happen at this point is unknown, but more than a year of information has been collected.

"We're going to post the data and the study results on our website for the community and the public to respond and submit their comments," Johnson said.

When WJZ asked people what they thought of idea in the beginning of the study, some were not in favor of the change.

"I would rather keep this way than going two ways. I understand they are going fast, but during the busy times they are slow anyway because of the traffic," said Falgun Patel.

"I don't know how they would do it, the streets are pretty tight around here so that would require perhaps a lot of restructuring," said one woman.

So for now, the direction of the plan leaves people waiting to see what will happen.

A final decision is expected by mid-March.
