The Earth Has Shifted; The Zodiac Signs Have Changed
BALTIMORE (WJZ)--Asking "What's your sign?" just got a lot more complicated. You may be shocked to learn that you're probably reading the wrong horoscope.
Mary Bubala reports that it all has to do with a shift in the Earth's alignment.
If you are among the millions who read their horoscope everyday to get a take on how your day will unfold, you may be way off.
Astronomers say a shift in the Earth's alignment has changed zodiac dates and even added a new sign.
"It comes up every couple of years," said Jim O'Leary, Maryland Science Center. "The way horoscopes are done by astrologers doesn't really match up to where the sun is against those constellations in the sky."
Here are the new horoscope dates:
- Capricorn- Jan. 20-Feb.16
- Aquarius- Feb. 16-March 11
- Pisces-March 11-April 18
- Aires- April 18-May 13
- Taurus-May 13- June 21
- Gemini-June 21-July 20
- Cancer-July 20-August 10
- Leo-August 10- Sept. 16
- Virgo- Sept. 16-Oct 30
- Libra-Oct. 30-Nov 23
- Scorpio- Nov. 23- Nov. 29
- Ophiuchus-Nov. 29-Dec. 17 (New sign)
- Sagittarius- Dec.17- Jan. 20
"January 9th, I have to be a Capricorn," said Elisia Mukes when told about the shift.
When told she was now a Sagittarius, she simply said, "No!"
Mukes and friend Alexia Roy can't get over the fact their signs may wrong.
"I am an Aquarius now and forever and always," Roy said.
But she's actually a Capricorn.
Astrologists say they've known about the shift for a long time and make adjustments to their horoscopes so you don't have to change your sign.
That's good news for those who feel aligned with their sign no matter how "out of alignment" the Earth is.
The Baltimore Sun continues to publish horoscopes under the original alignment, and they have no plans to change.
