FALLSTON, Md. (WJZ)—A horrific crash south of Bel Air leaves two dead and those who work at Harford County Public Schools asking why.

Mike Schuh spoke with one of the survivors.

The head-on collision at 50 mph on Route 152 left two people dead. One of them was 59-year-old Donald Jones, a well-known, well-liked electrician for Harford County schools.

County schools plumber Chris Baugher has known Jones for 20 years.

"You don't want to see it happen to anyone. Of all people, it doesn't make sense to me," Baugher said.

Jones was driving a white county schools truck when police say it crossed the centerline, crashing head-on into a black SUV driven by 46-year-old Ronald W. Buchholz. Both drivers died.

Dave Walter was sitting next to Jones at the time of the crash, and somehow he survived.

Walter and Jones worked together for eight years. He says he's too torn up physically and mentally to talk with WJZ on camera. He says he lost his best friend.

Lately Walter and his wife have been up at night at a hospital, as his mother-in-law is battling cancer.

He thinks he fell asleep as he and Jones headed to their next job. He doesn't remember the crash. He says he only remembers waking up and asking about his friend Jones. They vacationed together, and he says his friend always wanted to do a better job; he wanted to make people happy.

Baugher confirms that, saying Jones would often do electrical work for free for the custodians he'd met on his three decades on the job.

"There wasn't anything that Don wouldn't do for someone. He lived the life of a good person," Baugher said.

Unable to stop, a red Jeep plowed into the back of Buchholz' SUV. That driver, 51-year-old Mike Euler, also survived. A well-known Harford County developer, Euler, says he has a project going on just a mile from the crash scene.

Still in Shock Trauma, he tells Eyewitness News he's in too much pain to talk about what happened.

So far no funeral arrangements have been made for Jones or Buchholz.
