Strong Winds Cause House Fire To Spread Quickly In Md.

WOODBINE, Md. (AP) -- Fire investigators say strong winds caused a fire in a Woodbine home to spread quickly and destroy the structure.

The fire broke out shortly after 7 a.m. Sunday. The Maryland State Fire Marshal's office says in a news release that the married couple who own the house woke up to the fire on their rear deck. They were able to escape along with their child. However, a dog and a cat died in the fire after the occupants were unable to get back inside to save them.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Investigators say it took an hour and a half to bring under control and did $225,000 in damage to the home and its contents.
