Steve Davis: Orioles Make Statement In AL East
I don't necessarily think the Orioles needed to make a statement this weekend, but they certainly continue to do just that.
By taking 3 of 4 from the Red Sox, not only have they moved to within a game and a half of Boston, but they continued their recent dominance over the Red Sox. They took the season series last year 13-5, and are now 5-2 this season.
Not only that, but after losing 14 straight decisions to Jon Lester, they've won their last 5 games when he has pitches agains the O's. Chris Davis, who had never had a hit off Lester, tagged him for a homer and a double.
The Orioles have now won 6 straight series vs. the Red Sox. Sure, Boston might have a slight lead on the Orioles, but lately, the Orioles have had their number.
