COLUMBIA, Md. (WJZ) -- Police believe speed may have been a factor in a fatal single-vehicle car accident.

According to police, a 2012 Honda Civic was driving west on Governor Warfield Parkway from Little Patuxent Parkway when it lost control, left the road and struck a tree.

The driver, Sahan Tilaka Kalegana Koralage, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene. Koralage was not wearing a seat belt.

The investigation is ongoing.
