BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A rising country singer from Mechanicsville, Maryland is to make his debut on one of country music's most famous stages — The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
"The opry I think for any country artist is basically like the super bowl," said the singer, Sam Grow.
On Nov. 27, Grow is performing at the historic venue during its Saturday Night Opry show when both new talent and country star legends come together for a weekly performance.
For Grow, it is a dream come true.
"My dad took me down when I was 14 years old and the first thing he drove me by was the Grand Ole Opry," he said. "He said you know son there's going to be a lot of country singers but it really doesn't count until they step into that circle."
Grow will sing three songs including Me and Mine, Go Right Now and his most famous track, "Song About You," which has been streamed more than 60 million times and was named one of Spotify's Best Country songs.
He also told WJZ that much of his music was inspired by his Maryland roots.
"I draw all my inspiration for my songs from a lot of Southern Maryland you know because that's where I went through a lot of things and growing up," Grow added.
Grow says his father would have loved to see him perform at the Opry but he died in 2018. The final song he plans to sing, "Go Right Now" is a tribute to him.
"It's a song that I really wish he could be here to see me do but you know like I said he'll be watching in heaven," he said.
Listen to Grow's performance at the Grand Ole Opry can be streamed online. The show begins at 7 p.m. central time and 8 p.m. eastern.
Marylanders interested in seeing Grow perform in-person can attend his next show in the Baltimore area at the Crazy Tuna Bar & Grille in Essex on Feb. 12 at 8 p.m. Tickets for the show will be available online in the next month.
