Reports Of Fire Briefly Shut Down D.C. Metro Service
ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) -- Metro says trains were suspended on part of the orange and silver lines for more than an hour after fire was reported in a tunnel in Arlington.
Metro spokeswoman Sherri Ly says the report came around 10 a.m. Friday and service was suspended between the Ballston and Rosslyn stations until 11:20 a.m.
Arlington County fire officials tweeted that firefighters responded to reports of a fire in the tunnel between the Clarendon and Courthouse stations and that it was extinguished.
Metro spokesman Dan Stessel says all indications are that the fire was debris-related and not linked to the power issue that closed the system for a day last week. The shutdown followed a fire in a tunnel near the McPherson Square station on the orange, blue and silver lines.
