RECALL: Giant Yanks Trail Mix From Shelves
BALTIMORE, Md. (WJZ) -- Giant Food is recalling select Nature's Promise trail mix and walnut products due to concerns that they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the grocery chain announced Tuesday.
The voluntary recall follows one issued by the manufacturer, Woodstock Farms Manufacturing, Inc. The products under recall include:
- Nature's Promise Cranberry Trail Mix, 12 oz., UPC 68826706612 with a 'best by' date of 9/17/2016 and a lot number of 16082, 16099 or 16117, and;
- Nature's Promise Walnut Halves & Pieces, 7 oz., UPC 68826714404 with 'best by' dates of 4/2/2017 and 4/19/2017 and a lot number of 16093 or 16110.
So far, Giant has not received any reports of illnesses related to the products. But as the chain notes, "Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease." It can cause fever, headaches, nausea and neck stiffness, along with miscarriages and stillbirths for pregnant mothers.
Among those particularly vulnerable to listeriosis are infants, the elderly and people with compromised immune systems, such as those undergoing chemotherapy.
Customers who purchased the affected products are urged to throw away any unused portions and bring their receipts to Giant for a full refund.
