Balt. Co. Police Searching For Driver In Fatal Hit-And-Run

LOCHEARN, Md. (WJZ) -- Police are desperately searching for the driver who killed a pedestrian and smashed into an MTA bus. It happened Tuesday night around 8:30 p.m. in Lochearn.

Tracey Leong with an update on the investigation.

Police do not have a good description of the suspect right now. We only know the man was driving a 2001 Mercedes, and after totaling his car on Liberty Road, he ran away.

One man is dead, five others injured after a reckless driver barreled down Liberty Road Tuesday night, first slamming into a pedestrian then a Honda Accord and finally smashing head on into an MTA bus.

The person responsible is now on the run.

"This driver had no regard for anyone's safety," said Cpl. John Wachter, Baltimore County Police Department.

The driver was behind the wheel of a silver 2001 Mercedes.

People in the area say it's frightening to know he is still on the loose.

"No respect for life, no consideration for the individual at all. No. That's just crazy," said Jewel Crawley.

Police say it's unclear why the Mercedes lost control and hope witnesses will come forward and help piece the story together.

"We need anyone with any kind of information on this guy whatsoever, anybody who might have seen anything unusual, heard anything," said Wachter.

Investigators are working to identify the male driver. The car he was driving is not listed as stolen.

Police tell WJZ the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda, the bus driver and the three passengers on board were not seriously hurt.

Investigators are hoping to catch the dangerous driver before he hurts another person.

"Do the right thing now, you can turn yourself in because we have very good detectives working on this case and we're going to find you," said Wachter.

The identity of the pedestrian killed has not been released yet to the public.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Baltimore County police.
