Police: Man Charged After Found Living In Unoccupied Home

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -- Ocean City police say a man has been charged after he was reportedly found living in an unoccupied home.

Police say the owner of the property, which was apparently supposed to be unoccupied for the winter, had noticed an increase in the homes' utility bills.

When the owner checked on the home, a police report says 59-year-old Howard Shaffer of Ocean City had been living there.

Shaffer was located by Maryland State Police on Feb. 2, who turned him over to the Ocean City Police Department. Officers say Shaffer was charged with multiple counts of burglary, theft and malicious destruction of property.

Shaffer was released on bond. It isn't immediately clear if he has an attorney.
