Officers Shoot & Kill Armed Suspects In East Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- There was a double fatal shooting in broad daylight Thursday and three Baltimore police officers were involved.

Ava-joye Burnett has more on what led up to two people being shot and killed by police.

Baltimore police say their officers were on routine patrol through their east Baltimore neighborhood when they came across two men with guns---both of those men are now dead.

"It was like boom boom boom so all of a sudden you was like, `This has got to be gunshots,'" said Richard Reed.

It's the aftermath of a police-involved shooting on Lanvale near Greenmount. Baltimore police say three officers were on patrol when they came across two suspects with guns. Police say one of the weapons was a rifle with at least 20 rounds.

Police say at least two of the three officers fired their weapon.

"At this point, we are still investigating it but what we do know is that the suspects who had the two guns were aiming those guns at what we believe were some people," said TJ Smith.

"It was horrible. It was very horrible," said Rhonda Mackey.

She says the men shot and killed were father and son.

"I was getting ready to get off work, got a phone call from my uncle that my cousin was shot, him and his father," she said.

WJZ asked police if the suspects actually fired their weapons or if they were just pointing them. The department could not answer that question at this point because how this all played out is still being investigated.

Police say there was a murder in the area Wednesday night. For residents in the up and coming neighborhood, this latest violence is a major concern.

"It's just sad because it's someone's family member. If that was just my family member, I would be very sad about it," said Kiera Hayes.

The three officers involved were not hurt and are now on administrative leave, which is standard procedure. Police have not identified the men who died.

As police continue with their investigation, they want anyone with information to give them a call.
