Permits Issued For Frederick County Incinerator

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Maryland environmental officials have issued permits for a proposed incinerator in Frederick County.

The permits from the state Department of the Environment became effective Friday and cover soil, water and air emissions for the planned waste-to-energy incinerator.

The project reflects a partnership between Frederick and Carroll counties, and the incinerator is intended to handle 1,500 tons of trash a day.

The incinerator would be located in McKinney Industrial Park in Frederick. It's intended to incinerate solid waste, bio-solids and scrap tires.

The department held public hearings on the permit applications and also received written comments from citizens and organizations.
