Pedestrian Dead After Being Struck By A Car In Gaithersburg

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) -- Police in Montgomery County say a woman is dead after being struck by a car in Gaithersburg.

Police say they were called around 6 a.m. Monday to the intersection of S. Frederick Avenue and S. Westland Drive for a report of a pedestrian struck. Police say the woman died at the scene. Police identified her as 50-year-old Muivembet Gelaw of Gaithersburg.

Police say it appears Gelaw was walking in the area of a crosswalk when she was struck by the driver of a Toyota Camry. Investigators are working to determine what traffic and pedestrian signals said at the time of the crash. Police say the driver of the car remained on scene and was not injured.
