Parents Surprise Aspiring Firefighter With Visit To Baltimore Firehouse
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Dreams come true for a young boy in Baltimore when a firefighter invites him and his family to tour the firehouse.
Their friendship began just a week ago when young Joshua and his mother met Firefighter and EMT Jason Callis, of Engine 42, at Safeway.
Joshua, who wants to become firefighter when he grows up, couldn't be more ecstatic when Callis showed him the truck and even let him try on a firefighter's hat.
"Mr. Callis was gracious in taking pictures with Joshua, he even got his fire hat, and told him a little bit about what he did," said Joshua's mother, Lakeisha Parker
He was so touched by the experience that after meeting Callis he told his mother he met "his real hero."
But Joshua received an even bigger surprise when his parents were contacted by Engine 42 to come visit the firehouse.
Firefighter Callis greeted Josh with open arms on Saturday and this time, he even let him sit in the front seat. It was all smiles for Joshua as he toured the station and learned about the interworkings of the fire truck.
"Just for them to take the time out of their day for a 6-year-old they don't even know says a lot about the department," said Joshua's father, James Lowa.
The Baltimore City Fire Department says they invite anyone who's interested to stop by any of their stations.
"We encourage members of the community to stop by any of our neighborhood fire stations and meet the men and woman who take pride in protecting the citizens of Baltimore City," said fire officials in an Instagram post.
As for Joshua's future--his options are endless.
"We just want to keep his options open," says his father. "He loves athletics, he loves firefighters, he loves paramedics, he loves cops, and whatever he wants to do he can do,."
