O's Fans Sad About Division Loss But Excited For Wild Card Game Friday

BALTIMORE (WJZ)— In less than 48 hours, the Orioles head into their first playoff game in 15 years! The O's will have to fight the Texas Rangers to stay alive. The town is rocking as excitement builds for an orange postseason.

Monique Griego has more on the outbreak of Orioles fan fever.

Fans were definitely hopeful Wednesday night, cheering and yelling at the TV but it just didn't happen. While fans are disappointed, they aren't giving up.

Anxious anticipation filled the room at Jimmy's Seafood in Dundalk as Orioles fans geared up for the final game of the regular season. Next stop, playoffs.

"When you're a true Orioles fan like I am, I expected them to be here. Awesome team; we buckled up," said Steve Blake.

"I'm very nervous right now but I think they're going to pull through tonight," said Kelly Crowe.

For many Birds fans, this magical season couldn't have ended any better, with the Orioles battling the Yankees for first place.

"I hope today is the day," said Arnold Blake.

And with all eyes glued to the game, businesses are also hitting a home run.

For the first time in a very long time, retailers say O's sales are taking over October. It isn't just Orioles gear flying off the shelves--people want playoff apparel.

"This whole week has been crazy. A lot of the shirts, hats and flags," said one retailer.

While nostalgia was high all day, at Pickles Pub, people watched while first place hopes slipped away.

"Pretty depressed. I was hoping we'd put up more of an effort," said Justin Heyne.

"They've pulled it off so far. They'll continue," said Megan Beam.

That was the main message we heard: this team has been surprising us all season long and we can't give up on them now.
