Hundreds Arrested In Prince George's County Warrant Initiative
PALMER PARK, Md. (AP) -- Gov. Martin O'Malley says hundreds of people have been arrested as part of a warrant initiative aimed at violent crime in Prince George's County.
The governor made the announcement after attending a monthly meeting on crime fighting efforts in the county on Thursday.
Last month, 719 people were arrested or kept behind bars. Those arrests resulted in the closing of 818 warrants.
The initiative involved 39 law enforcement officers who were organized into nine teams.
The warrant initiative was funded by a $250,000 federal Byrne Justice Assistance Grant through the Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention. It's part of intensified crime fighting efforts in the county.
Earlier this week, county officials reported a 9 percent decline in crime this year.
