Official: Annapolis Fire Started Near Christmas Tree

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Fire officials say a fire that damaged an Annapolis home started in the area of a Christmas tree.

Annapolis fire department officials said in a news release that the cause of the fire at the Jackson Street home on Saturday afternoon is still under investigation, but it began near a live tree in the living room. No one was home at the time of the fire and a neighbor called 911 to report the fire.  No injuries were reported.

Officials say the tree was purchased several weeks ago and residents planned to remove it from the house Sunday.

Fire Chief David Stokes says it's time to remove holiday season, particularly live trees and wreaths that can pose a fire risk when they dry out.
