National Guard Museum In D.C. To Add 9/11 Gallery

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The National Guard Memorial Museum in Washington is preparing to close for renovations and will reopen with a new gallery detailing the guard's service since the 9/11 attacks.

The museum on Capitol Hill will close Monday and plans to reopen Nov. 1 with the newly added gallery. It will include a memorial wall displaying the names of guardsmen who died in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The museum says its new 9/11 Era Gallery will tell the story of the National Guard's transition from being a strategic reserve to an operational force over the past decade. Artifacts will include pieces from the World Trade Center, uniforms from soldiers and items from domestic missions.
