1 dead, 3 injured after shootout and crash near Baltimore's Mondawmin Mall, police say
One man was killed, and three men were injured after a shootout and crash near Mondawmin Mall on Monday night in West Baltimore, according to Police Commissioner Richard Worley.
A large police presence responded at 9:30 p.m. to an extensive crime scene around the 2400 block of Liberty Heights Avenue. Multiple streets were shutdown in the area.
The police response
Worley said when officers arrived, two vehicles had crashed into each other in the mall parking lot. They found two people -- ages 23 and 25 -- with gunshot wounds.
A third non-fatal gunshot victim, a 27-year-old, was located in the 3000 block of Tioga Parkway. A fourth person, a 24-year-old man, was found dead in the 2500 block of Liberty Heights Avenue.
Police said three handguns and a rifle were recovered from the crime scenes.
"As you can see, this is an extensive crime scene," Worley said. "It was a shootout. It looked like it occurred here in this parking lot where the two vehicles were crashed together.

"It's a tragic situation"
Baltimore residents told WJZ they are concerned by the violence in the city, despite city leaders insisting that crime is on the decline.
In 2025, Baltimore police reported a nearly 50-year low in homicide victims. As of Tuesday morning, there have been 16 homicides in Baltimore this year, compared to 14 at this time last year.
"I think it's a tragic situation. Unfortunately that's the world we live in right now," said Angel Swann, who often visits Mondawmin Mall.
"I was definitely surprised," added Baltimore resident Melvin Wilson. "I just think about it happening just last night right here and it's like, 'Wow, that's hitting close to home."
Baltimore residents told WJZ that incidents like the shootout near Mondawmin Mall have them doubting crime reports from city officials.
"I'm not a believer," Swann said. "I don't see it going down and with the weather since the break, it seems like it's going to get higher and higher."
"Last year was a good year, not a lot of events like this happening but now I see this happening more and more," Wilson said. "It's got me kind of shaky, you know?"
