Md. College To Award $61K Undergrad Literary Prize
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Maryland's Washington College is preparing to announce the winner of the nation's largest literary prize for undergraduate college students.
This year's Sophie Kerr Prize is valued at $61,192. The five finalists for the prize hail from Maryland, Virginia and Delaware.
This year's finalists are Emily Blackner of Perry Hall, Maegan Clearwood of Middletown, Tim Marcin of Wilmington, Del., Jillian Obermeier of Gaithersburg, and Bond Richards of Norfolk, Va.
Since 1968, Washington College in the Eastern Shore town of Chestertown has awarded the prize to a graduating senior who demonstrates the best potential for literary achievement.
The prize will be announced Tuesday night at Baltimore's Enoch Pratt Free Library.
