Mayor Catherine Pugh Celebrates After Inauguration
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Before her first full day on the job. Mayor Catherine Pugh joined hundreds of supporters for her inaugural party downtown.
The mayor herself got on the dance floor, but in just a matter of hours. It will be a new day and the real work begins.
Mayor Pugh was celebrated Tuesday night in front of a packed ballroom as she ushered in the party.
"Thank you everyone, thank you committee. Turn that music up," said Pugh.
But as the City's 50th mayor danced with the people who elected her, there's no denying there are high expectations.
"I've never been intimidated I'm one of seven children whose parents taught me anything we want to do, work hard we can do it. And still would've said to the citizens of Baltimore is that they have a servant-leader. Someone who will work for them 24/7 nonstop," said Pugh.
Hundreds of people filled the at capacity ballroom at the Hilton. And many of them say the City is getting ready to turn a new page and they are hopeful the new mayor can handle it.
"There is a new beginning, and your connectivity," said Abe McCauley.
"Her success is tied to our success, so we want to show her that we want her to be successful that we support her," said Carla Hopkins.
"I really feel this energy and excitement and rejuvenation coming throughout the City in a way that I haven't felt in a long time," said Nathan Willner of the Cheswalde Neighborhood Association.
During the celebrations the mayor also announced she's already filled some leadership positions and she also reiterated one more thing.
"We are your public servants and I will be your servant leader," she said.
The mayor listed some of the main things she wants to tackle right away, which includes reducing crime and improving the public education system.
