Marylanders Out Shopping On Christmas Day

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Christmas Day is here, so you would think that holiday shopping is done for the season--not exactly.

Amy Yensi with more on the last-minute shopping.

Dozens of people were out shopping on Christmas Day, taking advantage of the small crowds and low prices.

There are plenty of deals left if you know where to go.

"I bought memory foam slippers for my sisters," said one shopper.

"A fountain and then a food processor for $12," said Lisa Bradney.

Stores across Maryland are open on Christmas, as last minute shoppers take one final lap around the sales racks.

"We have customers, and we have to meet their needs," said Lakeisha Warfeild, Walgreen's assistant store manager.

At the Safeway in Towson, some are happy the holiday rush is over.

"Actually, it was very good. There's hardly anyone here. Leaving it to the last minute is not really leaving it to the last minute. We're just picking up some extra people and we were in the area; so, extra drinks, extra people," said Lisa Holton.

"And for people that don't celebrate Christmas, then it's an opportunity for them to get out," said Craig Muckle, Safeway.

And if you're still not sure what to get, store managers say gift cards are a good and popular idea.

"It's really a great gift idea for teenagers. You know, teenagers are kind of hard to shop for," said Warfield.

And though the race for gifts is in its final stretch, the spirit of giving lasts well after the season.

"They always appreciate it, whether it's late or not, it's better late than never," said Mark Holmes.

If you run out of time, don't worry--many stores will keep the sales going until the end of the year.
